President Donald Trump expressed support for Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding full control by Russia over Donbas and freezing the front line to conclude an agreement with Ukraine, reported a European diplomat to Fox News.

After a meeting with Putin on Friday in Alaska, Trump told European allies that Putin is interested in controlling the Luhansk and Donetsk regions but is also ready to freeze the conflict in the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions.

According to the report, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier rejected the idea of giving up part of Donetsk region, emphasizing the unconstitutionality of this step and the possibility of using this territory for Russian attacks.

Zelensky's meeting with Trump is scheduled at the White House on Monday, after which Trump refused to support the reconciliation regime, advocating for a peace agreement. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz reported that Trump agreed to negotiate based on the line of contact, rather than administrative borders.

European leaders welcomed Trump's efforts to stop the war in Ukraine and achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Trump's support for Putin regarding the Donbas issue has provoked outrage and sharp reactions from Ukrainian and European political leaders. Trump's decision to refuse to support the reconciliation regime and view negotiations based on the line of contact may have serious consequences for the situation in Donbas and the prospects for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
