US-Iran Negotiations

Following recent US military strikes, President Donald Trump has declared his readiness to engage in negotiations with Iran. President Trump characterized these strikes as a preemptive measure, taken in response to threats linked to Iran's nuclear program. He stated that Iran was on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons, and according to his intelligence, the country could have obtained them within two weeks.

Trump noted: 'Iran was going to have a nuclear weapon in two weeks, so we acted preemptively.'

The US attacks resulted in the deaths of 48 Iranian officials, including key figures from the defense and security sectors, such as leaders of the army, the Ministry of Defense, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. US Central Command (Centcom) also confirmed that three American service members were killed and five were seriously wounded during the operation, known as 'Epic Fury,' against Iran.

Trump reported that Iran, for its part, proposed resuming talks, and he agreed to these discussions.

'They want to talk, and I agreed to talk, so I will talk to them. They should have done it sooner. They waited too long,' Trump commented.
Simultaneously, he expressed confidence in the correctness of his actions: 'I'm not worried about anything. I'm just doing what's right. In the end, it all works out.'

Regional Tensions

The conflict has also involved attacks on civilian targets. For instance, the oil tanker Skylight, flying the flag of Palau, was struck by a direct hit from an Iranian attack drone on March 1, 2026. The Emirate of Sharjah also came under a mass attack by Iranian kamikaze drones. Iran's state news agency IRNA and the country's leading media officially confirmed the deaths of key military leaders. It was noted that the Iranian government declared 40 days of mourning following the death of Khamenei.

Trump emphasized that the US has achieved significant success in its actions: 'Nobody can believe the success we're having. It's moving very fast.' The situation remains tense, and forthcoming negotiations could determine the trajectory of US-Iran relations. This potential dialogue comes amid a long history of mutual distrust and regional proxy conflicts.

Negotiations between the US and Iran could represent a critical step in de-escalating regional tensions, considering the recent military actions and casualties on both sides. Observers note that resuming dialogue may open new avenues for conflict resolution; however, uncertainty regarding Iran's intentions and the reactions of other regional powers remains a significant factor that will influence future developments.
