President Trump's Address to Congress

On February 24, U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a State of the Union address to Congress, focusing on domestic achievements, foreign policy challenges, and economic issues. The speech, which lasted over 1 hour and 40 minutes, covered several key topics:

  • Reductions in illegal immigration;
  • Measures to combat fraud;
  • Concerns over Iran's nuclear program;
  • The ongoing war in Ukraine;
  • Oil imports from Venezuela.

Trump highlighted that his administration has curbed illegal border crossings, intensified efforts to stop fentanyl imports, and increased deportations. To lead the fight against fraud within the U.S., Vice President JD Vance will oversee this initiative. The President emphasized the potential impact, stating,

"If we can find enough of that fraud, we could essentially balance the budget overnight. It will happen very quickly."

In his remarks, Trump also expressed serious concerns regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions, noting the country is developing long-range missiles capable of reaching U.S. territory.

"We destroyed (nuclear facilities), and they want to start all over again,"
Trump stated, adding he would never allow Iran, which he called the world's leading sponsor of terrorism, to obtain nuclear weapons.

Foreign Policy and Economic Achievements

On foreign policy, the President briefly addressed the war in Ukraine, though he did not provide specific details. Trump noted that the U.S. has received over 80 million barrels of oil from Venezuela following the ousting of Nicolás Maduro. He also pointed to a domestic production increase of over 600,000 barrels per day, with the national average gasoline price on Tuesday standing at $2.95 per gallon.

Trump concluded his speech by declaring,

"Our nation has come back – bigger, better, richer, and stronger than ever before,"
calling this period a 'golden era for America.' The previous record for the longest State of the Union address was held by Bill Clinton, who spoke for just over 1 hour and 28 minutes in the year 2000.

President Trump's address underscored the significance of both domestic policy wins and the international challenges facing the United States. His focus on immigration enforcement and fraud prevention are central pillars of his platform, which could influence the upcoming election cycle. The expressed worries over Iran's nuclear program and the conflict in Ukraine indicate that foreign policy remains a critical component of the administration's strategy, particularly regarding global security threats. This speech served as a major platform for the President to outline his record and priorities as the nation navigates a complex international landscape. The State of the Union is a key annual event where the President outlines their vision directly to lawmakers and the American public.
