Phone Call Between Trump and Zelenskyy

On February 25, a phone conversation took place between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During the call, Trump expressed his intention to end the war in Ukraine within one month. Trump stated,

"the war has gone on too long and he would like to see it concluded in a month's time"
. This marks the first direct contact between the two leaders since their in-person meeting in Davos in late January. The call underscores Trump's continued personal involvement in high-stakes diplomacy.

Conversation Details and Planned Meetings

The call lasted approximately half an hour and included Trump's special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Both American representatives are scheduled to be in Geneva, where a meeting with a Ukrainian delegation led by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov is planned. While in Geneva, Kushner and Witkoff may also hold a separate meeting with Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev. These planned talks in a neutral location are seen as a critical step in testing diplomatic waters.

This phone conversation and the scheduled meetings in Geneva could significantly influence the future trajectory of the conflict in Ukraine. Trump's initiative to end the war points toward the possibility of new negotiations that might lead to a de-escalation of tensions. Observers note that any positive movement in this direction could prove crucial for regional stability and the complex relations between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia.
