Donald Trump’s Visit to China
During his trip to China, U.S. President Donald Trump toured the Zhongnanhai government compound in Beijing alongside Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Xi gave Trump a guided walk through the former imperial garden, now part of a complex housing the Chinese Communist Party and State Council offices. The two leaders examined ancient trees, some between 200 and 400 years old. Xi confirmed their age and noted that China has trees that are over a thousand years old. Trump asked with curiosity:
“Can they really live that long?”
Talks with Xi Jinping
On May 14, Trump arrived at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing for negotiations with Xi Jinping. During the meeting, the two sides discussed key issues, including:
- the war in Ukraine,
- the situation in the Middle East,
- the Korean Peninsula,
- the Taiwan question.
Journalists noted the handshake between the leaders, which became a symbol of their cooperation. At the end of the talks, Trump formally invited Xi Jinping to visit the White House on September 24, 2026.
Additionally, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit Beijing on May 20—just days after the Xi-Trump summit. Putin is expected to stay in China for one day.
