Roberto Martinez in Negotiations with Al-Nassr

Portugal’s national team manager, Roberto Martinez, has initiated discussions with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Martinez intends to step down from his role with the national team following the conclusion of the World Cup. This potential move comes after Al-Nassr parted ways with former head coach Jorge Jesus.

Roberto Martinez’s Coaching Career

Martinez took charge of the Portuguese national side in 2023, having previously managed Belgium from 2016 to 2022. The Spanish tactician’s greatest achievement to date is guiding Belgium to a third-place finish at the 2018 World Cup. At the club level, he has worked exclusively in English football, coaching Swansea City, Wigan Athletic, and Everton. During the 2012/13 season, Martinez led Wigan to an FA Cup victory.

Cristiano Ronaldo, currently playing for Al-Nassr, recently helped the club secure the Saudi Pro League title. In the decisive final matchday fixture, Al-Nassr defeated Damac 4-1, with Ronaldo scoring twice.

A switch to Al-Nassr could represent a significant career move for Martinez, given his extensive experience in international football. With Ronaldo thriving at the club and growing global interest in Saudi football, this appointment might unlock new opportunities for the team’s development.

The dismissal of Jorge Jesus also signals a shift in the club’s management approach, which could reshape their strategic direction moving forward.
