Deployment of Ground Robotics in the 'Vivaldi' Operation
During the offensive 'Vivaldi' campaign in Donetsk region, the Third Army Corps introduced ground robotic complexes (GRC) for the first time. These advanced systems played a critical role in mine clearance, assault support, and frontline logistics. Over two nights, GRCs successfully cleared 30 kilometers of routes near Shandryholove, significantly accelerating mission timelines. Without these robotic assets, it would have taken two sapper companies a full week to complete the same task. Notably, there were no sapper casualties during the demining efforts.
The use of GRCs accounted for the removal of approximately 60% of anti-personnel mines within the corps' operational zone. A single GRC crew can clear up to 200 meters of terrain in a day. Additionally, over two nights, these systems laid 400 meters of mine barriers. Beyond demining, the robots also support evacuations of wounded personnel and transport supplies, construction materials, and equipment to frontline positions.
Outcomes of the 'Vivaldi' Offensive
In the second phase of the 'Vivaldi' operation, the Third Army Corps liberated Shandryholove and Derylove, while also securing control over Drobysheve—regaining 125 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory. The integration of GRCs has been scaled from small units up to the corps level throughout the ongoing Donetsk campaign. Given the open terrain, relying solely on human sapper teams for mine clearance is no longer feasible.
