Fatal Railway Incidents in the Obukhiv District
Three separate deadly accidents occurred on railway tracks in the Obukhiv District of the Kyiv Region. The victims were:
- A 70-year-old woman near the Cherkes station,
- A 49-year-old man in the village of Pustovity,
- Another 70-year-old woman on the stretch between Vasylkiv and Hlevakha.
Details of the Incidents
The first tragedy took place near the Cherkes station when a Kyiv-Vasylkiv commuter train struck an elderly woman walking along the tracks. Despite the driver activating the horn and emergency brakes, the train’s high speed made a collision unavoidable. The 70-year-old woman died at the scene. A criminal investigation has been launched under Article 276, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as reported by the Kyiv Region police press office.
The second incident occurred on April 26 in the village of Pustovity, part of the Myronivka territorial community. A 49-year-old man was killed instantly after being hit by a high-speed passenger train traveling from Cherkasy to Kyiv. Preliminary findings suggest he lost his balance and fell onto the rail.
Another fatal event happened on April 13 on the railway stretch between Vasylkiv and Hlevakha stations. A passenger train en route from Kyiv to Chełm struck and killed a 70-year-old woman who suddenly stepped onto the tracks. She died on site. Law enforcement has gathered details on all three cases and is continuing investigations into potential violations of railway safety or operational rules that led to these deaths.
