A Fatal Incident in the Lviv Region
A devastating event near Zhovkva in the Lviv Region has claimed the lives of three young children. On the morning of February 7th, their 31-year-old mother left her sons, aged 2, 4, and 6, unattended inside a locked house. Upon returning late that evening, she discovered the children unconscious and signs of a fire in the room. Emergency medical personnel who arrived at the scene pronounced the children dead.
Investigation into the Cause and Aftermath
The preliminary cause of death has been identified as carbon monoxide poisoning from smoke inhalation. According to initial information from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, a bed in the room caught fire, likely due to the children playing with matches. The children suffered burns and were overcome by toxic fumes. No emergency service units were called to the scene at the time of the incident.
The children's mother has been detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The Zhovkva District Prosecutor's Office is considering formal suspicion under Article 166 of the Criminal Code, which deals with the willful failure to fulfill duties for the care of a child. Investigative actions are ongoing. The State Emergency Service received information about the tragedy from the police at 23:00 on February 7th.
