Tragedy in Piskivka
Three people died from carbon monoxide poisoning in the town of Piskivka, Kyiv region, on February 8. Preliminary reports indicate a faulty heating stove was the cause. The victims were a 63-year-old woman, a 68-year-old man, and a 27-year-old man. Law enforcement was notified of the incident on the same day.
Investigators have launched a pre-trial inquiry under Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, classified as an 'accident'. This incident follows another recent tragedy in the region. On January 22, six people were poisoned by carbon monoxide in Kyiv Oblast, with a family of three, including two children, hospitalized in the Bucha district after using a kitchen stove's gas burners for heating.
Heating Appliance Safety
These tragedies underscore the critical importance of following safety rules when using heating appliances, as carbon monoxide is a dangerous and invisible threat. Law enforcement urges citizens to be vigilant and attentive to the condition of their heating systems.
Such fatal accidents highlight the need for stricter oversight of residential heating systems. During the autumn and winter months, the risk of these incidents increases significantly. Regular inspections and maintenance of heating equipment are essential to prevent future loss of life.
