On September 10, Trump Mobile increased the price of its gold-colored T1 smartphone by $250, bringing the new price to $749 (approximately 33,300 UAH). This adjustment positions the T1 above the starting price of Apple’s budget iPhone 17e, which begins at $699 (officially marked up to 37,999 UAH in Ukraine). Notably, Trump Mobile made no formal announcement regarding the price change; instead, the updated cost appeared quietly on their website.
Wider Industry Price Increases
Although Trump Mobile initially set the T1’s launch price at $499, company leaders had previously indicated that the price might rise to as much as $999. This price increase aligns with a broader trend affecting many tech manufacturers. The surge in costs is largely driven by a shortage of RAM chips—referred to as "RAMageddon"—which has been intensified by massive investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure.
For example, Apple has raised prices by $100 on older iPhone models, and three months ago, the company also increased prices on several product lines:
- iPads (up to $200 more)
- MacBooks (up to $500 more)
- Mac Studio desktops (up to $1,300 more)
Experts at iFixit who disassembled the T1 revealed that the device is essentially a rebranded HTC model manufactured outside the United States—contradicting Trump Mobile’s earlier claims that the phone was made domestically.
The rise in smartphone prices, including the T1, reflects ongoing supply chain challenges and increased raw material expenses across the tech sector.
