Unmanned Aircraft Incident on the Black Sea Coast
A military-grade drone loaded with active explosives was discovered after waves carried it onto a Turkish beach along the Black Sea. The event unfolded at Kapısuyu Beach, located in the Kurucaşile district near the border of Bartın and Kastamonu provinces. Fearing a potential detonation, authorities fully cleared the area, with bomb disposal teams and military specialists deployed to the scene.
The munitions onboard the unmanned aerial vehicle were still live, sparking alarm among local residents. Law enforcement confirmed that the device visually resembles a Russian 'Gerbera' UAV, with partial damage to its airframe. It was local people who first spotted the drone and alerted officials, enabling prompt safety measures.
Controlled Disposal of Explosives Underway
Officials are now assessing options for a controlled detonation of the ordnance. Turkish authorities are currently working to determine the drone's origin and how it ended up on the beach. This is not the first such discovery in the area:
- In December 2025, farmers in western Turkey found a drone that had crashed onto vacant land in Balıkesir Province.
- In January 2026, residents in Moldova discovered a Russian drone carrying a warhead.
The Moldova incident was already described by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a threat to national sovereignty and citizen safety.
The drone incident on Turkey's coastline underscores the growing danger that military unmanned aircraft pose to regions near conflict zones.
Turkey’s government has responded swiftly, highlighting the seriousness of threats from such devices. Tracing the origins of these drones and their munitions could prove critical in preventing similar events in the future.
