Increase in state assistance for lonely elderly people in Ukraine
In 2026, the amount of monthly state assistance for lonely elderly people in Ukraine will be increased due to the rise in the minimum subsistence level. The minimum subsistence level in 2025 was 2361 UAH, and in 2026 it has risen to 2595 UAH. This increase is the main reason for the enhancement of assistance.
The monthly supplement for lonely elderly people in 2025 amounted to 944.4 UAH. In 2026, this amount increased to 1038 UAH, which is an increase of 93.6 UAH compared to the previous year. According to the legislation, this supplement is fixed at 40% of the minimum subsistence level for incapacitated individuals.
Criteria for receiving state assistance
To receive state assistance, lonely elderly individuals must meet certain criteria. Specifically, the person must:
- be over 80 years old;
- live alone;
- receive an age pension;
- have a medical conclusion regarding the need for care.
Additionally, to apply to the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU), it is necessary to submit an application, passport, identification code, conclusion from the medical commission (MKC), and confirmation of the absence of disability benefits. This innovation is aimed at supporting elderly individuals who require additional financial assistance in the face of rising living costs.
The increase in state assistance for lonely elderly people is an important step in ensuring social support for this vulnerable category of the population. In light of rising prices for essential goods and services, this initiative can significantly ease the financial burden on elderly individuals who often have limited incomes. The government of Ukraine continues to work on improving social policy to enhance living conditions for those in greatest need.
