By 2027, AI Will Be Ubiquitous in Business, Yet Few Companies Will Unlock Its True Potential

До 2027 року штучний інтелект стане невід'ємною частиною ведення бізнесу, але лише деякі компанії зможуть максимально використати його можливості.

How AI Will Transform Business by 2027

Artificial intelligence (AI) is set to become a standard tool across nearly all businesses by 2027. However, only a small fraction of organizations will be able to prove that AI genuinely improves efficiency, decision-making, or quality. The human resources (HR) sector will face particular challenges as it balances widespread AI adoption with measurable value generation. According to KPMG Global AI Pulse, almost every company will use AI by 2027, but just 8% of organizations earning over $100 million annually report clear returns on investment (ROI) from AI. Meanwhile, 95% of such companies have AI strategies in place, yet only 21% have fully redesigned their workflows to leverage AI effectively, as reported by McKinsey.

Current technologies have the capability to automate more than half of working hours in the U.S., underscoring the urgent need for businesses to adapt how work is structured. PwC's research highlights that roles involving close interaction with AI require human skills—such as judgment, creativity, empathy, and leadership—2.5 times more frequently than before. Despite this, half of business leaders report a decline in workforce skills due to overreliance on AI thinking, raising concerns about the future competence of employees.

Shifting HR Roles and AI Integration Trends

Gartner forecasts that by 2027, organizations will deploy specialized, smaller AI models at least three times more often than general-purpose ones. This shift coincides with a 16.4% increase in demand for HR Business Partners (HRBPs) over the past six months, while demand for HR Administrators has dropped by 29.6% and for HR Service Desk Agents by 38.3%. These trends reflect a strategic realignment within HR departments.

Still, 30% of HR teams lack clear goals or understanding of AI’s expected value and use cases. Data from the World Economic Forum and PwC shows that only 37% of younger workers hold jobs at moderate or high risk of AI-driven change. Additionally, 54% of C-level executives identify talent shortages as the biggest barrier affecting workforce planning. In this context, although 87% of digital employees regularly use AI, only 13% believe their organizations have realized substantial improvements from AI adoption.

Among the top 11 HR trends identified for 2027, key points include:

  • Human-AI collaboration becoming integral to daily work;
  • AI moving beyond adoption toward generating real value;
  • An emerging race to preserve organizational knowledge amid a deepening talent paradox;
  • Trust becoming the foundation of workplace infrastructure;
  • HR focusing more on delivering outcomes than just making decisions;
  • The evolving strategic role of the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).

Companies prioritizing AI-driven work design are twice as likely to surpass their AI ROI expectations. Yet, only 21% of leaders feel their organizations use AI in ways that minimize harm to employees. The demand for HR Technologists is high, with roughly five professionals available per vacancy, while the Head of Digital HR role attracts 25 candidates per opening.

Given these dynamics, businesses must craft AI implementation strategies that not only boost operational efficiency but also foster skill development aligned with the changing work environment. Adapting workflows and building trust between employees and AI technologies will be crucial to unlocking lasting value from AI in the workplace.
