Incident at Chișinău Airport

A traveler named Yuliia Denysenko experienced a stressful situation at Chișinău Airport when her boarding passes vanished after going through the hand luggage scanner. She was traveling with her son to Egypt, and upon passing security, she realized the documents were missing. Yuliia recalls:

“We took everything off and placed it in one bin. Me and my son. The bin went into the scanner. We walked through the metal detector, came out the other side, picked up our backpacks and the bin, and started sorting through the small items. That’s when I saw that the boarding passes were no longer in the passports!! They had been inside the passports, the passports with the tickets went into the bin, and on the other side, they were gone.” - Yuliia Denysenko

Although airport staff did not assist in searching for the lost documents, one employee advised Yuliia to return to the check-in counter to have new boarding passes printed. 'Thank God, the only competent worker—the one letting people into the scanner area—suggested going back to the check-in counter to print new boarding passes,' she noted. As a result, new tickets were issued, but the baggage tags were not provided.

Fortunately, Yuliia’s luggage arrived safely in Sharm El-Sheikh, as she confirmed: 'Thank God, the baggage made it.' She also mentioned that at the neighboring scanner, another woman’s boarding passes had fallen out, and an airport employee later returned them. Yuliia concluded that the scanner’s curtains might have swept the boarding passes away, causing them to drop inside the machine.

Travelers Share Their Experiences

In response to the incident, other travelers shared their own stories and advice:

  • Lyuba Klimenko noted that printed boarding passes are almost unnecessary, as showing a passport at the gate and a ticket on your phone is sufficient.
  • Oksana Skrypka recommended carrying documents in a waist bag to prevent loss during security checks.
  • Alexandra Kovalchuk-Matusevych reported a case where her husband’s watch disappeared after going through the scanner at Warsaw Airport, shocking fellow travelers.
  • Tetiana Tykhonova advised against placing small items separately in the bin.
  • Leon Ivanov highlighted the importance of putting phones and money inside your backpack, as theft from bins sometimes occurs.

This incident underscores the need for caution when passing through airport security, as such mishaps can happen to anyone.
