Ukrainian pensioners who officially formalized payments after reaching 60 years of age have the right to a number of state benefits, including free travel on public transport. However, free travel is not available everywhere: in some types of transport, passengers will have to pay themselves. This is reported by Novyny.LIVE.
Where pensioners can travel for free
According to the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution 'On free travel for pensioners on public transport', pensioners can travel for free on the following types of transports:
- trams;
- trolleybuses;
- city buses;
- suburban electric trains.
To take advantage of the benefit, it is sufficient to show a pension certificate. Thus, most pensioners can freely move around the city and suburbs without transportation costs.
Is the benefit valid for marshrutkas
Free travel on marshrutkas depends on the decisions of local authorities. Each community independently determines whether such benefits are provided and how many passengers can use them at the same time. Information about this is usually posted in the vehicle or on the city or village council's website.
When will you have to pay
The benefit does not apply to taxis, intercity buses, and trains. For such trips, pensioners pay the full price.
It was previously reported that a pension certificate not only confirms the status of a pensioner but also provides access to a number of social guarantees – discounts on medicines, utilities, and government support programs.
