Tragedy in Brovary
A devastating road accident in the Kyiv region has claimed the lives of two young children. On June 19, a collision between a VAZ car and a bus occurred on Pryvokzalna Street in the city of Brovary around 7:55 PM. The 29-year-old driver of the passenger vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, causing the crash with a bus driven by a 54-year-old man.
The car was carrying ten people—three adults and seven children ranging from 2 to 11 years old. Tragically, two girls lost their lives: a two-year-old died at the scene, and a four-year-old passed away later in the hospital. Seven individuals sustained injuries, ranging from moderate to severe, and are currently hospitalized. One child was treated and released to go home.
Statement from the Mayor of Brovary
Brovary Mayor Ihor Sapozhko commented: 'Both adults and children suffered significant injuries. Seven are now in our hospital in serious or moderate condition; one child was discharged after receiving care, and two girls have died.'
An investigation has been launched, and criminal proceedings have been initiated under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The Kyiv regional police and local officials provided details about the incident.
This tragedy in Brovary underscores the critical need for road safety compliance, particularly in areas where children are present. With heavy traffic and potential speed violations, such accidents can lead to irreversible consequences. The ongoing investigation aims to determine all circumstances of the crash and hold those responsible accountable, a vital step toward improving road safety.
In light of the recent tragic events, it's crucial to highlight the ongoing issues surrounding road safety in Brovary. Just days before the fatal accident involving the two young girls, another incident occurred where a teenager was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle. These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers present on the roads, especially for vulnerable pedestrians and children.
