Chernihiv Halts Hot Water Supply
Due to a severe shortage of thermal capacity, the city of Chernihiv will temporarily suspend its hot water supply starting January 30. This decision follows Russian attacks on critical infrastructure and accounts for an anticipated sharp drop in air temperatures. All available resources will be redirected to maintaining heat for residential buildings, which is the current priority.
Plans for Service Restoration
The hot water service is expected to be restored in approximately one week. The Chernihiv City Council stated that under present conditions, there are insufficient resources to simultaneously provide both heating and hot water to consumers. Technical teams from the municipal utility Teplokomunenergo, alongside energy workers, are operating on an intensified schedule to stabilize the situation and restore full services as quickly as possible.
City residents are asked to understand the temporary inconveniences caused by these changes. Ukraine's energy situation remains critical, with the country implementing significantly stricter schedules for power restrictions, reflecting the overall state of the energy system following Russian attacks.
The situation in Chernihiv illustrates the difficult conditions facing Ukraine's energy system as a result of the war.
Authorities are attempting to optimize the use of available resources to meet the population's basic heating needs. The duration of hot water restrictions and energy limitations in other regions may vary, depending on developments on the front lines and the speed of infrastructure repairs. This is part of a wider, ongoing struggle to keep cities habitable during winter under relentless attacks on energy networks.
