Incident in Chernivtsi

On February 7, a violent confrontation occurred in Chernivtsi when a passenger in a car wounded a serviceman from a Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRC). According to preliminary reports, the passenger refused to provide documents for a military records check and to follow the serviceman to the TRC. The situation escalated when the passenger attacked the serviceman with a sharp object, inflicting an injury. In response, the serviceman used a non-lethal firearm.

Following the incident, the passenger was detained by officers of the National Police. The serviceman who discharged the weapon had previously served in a combat unit but was reassigned to the district TRC due to a prior injury. An official investigation into the case has been launched.

Military Leadership's Response

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has ordered a review of TRC personnel to identify individuals with combat experience. In line with his directive, servicemen lacking combat experience or with health issues will be reassigned to combat zones. The Chernivtsi incident has sparked a broader discussion regarding the safety and operational readiness of military personnel during their duties.
