Suspects Apprehended Following Attack on Judge

Three men, aged between 33 and 36, have been detained in connection with a violent assault on a judge in Dnipro's Sobornyi district on March 13. The assailants, who arrived in a car without license plates and wore balaclavas, used pepper spray and attempted to force the female judge into their vehicle. She sustained physical injuries, and her husband was also hurt while trying to intervene. Attacks on judicial officials in Ukraine have become an increasing concern, highlighting the pressures on the country's legal system.

Law Enforcement Response and Investigation

As part of the ongoing pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers conducted 38 authorized searches across the Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions. The suspects have been formally charged under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including:

  • Part 3 of Article 15
  • Part 2 of Article 146
  • Part 2 of Article 377
  • Part 4 of Article 296

In response to the severity of this incident, the Council of Judges of Ukraine has announced it will initiate measures to restrict public access to information about the residential addresses of judges and their families. This move underscores the perceived need for enhanced protection of judicial personnel. Authorities continue to implement steps aimed at safeguarding members of the judiciary.

The case has drawn attention to the growing risks faced by Ukraine's judges, who can be targeted due to their professional roles. Given the rise in threats and violence, implementing additional security protocols for the judiciary is now considered critically important. The Council of Judges' initiative to shield personal data reflects the gravity of the situation and a commitment to upholding the safety and integrity of the justice system.

The recent attack on a judge in Dnipro has prompted the Judicial Council to take action aimed at enhancing the safety of judicial officials. This response highlights the urgent need for improved protective measures in light of increasing violence against members of the judiciary, underscoring the broader implications for the legal system in Ukraine.
