In the Dnipropetrovsk region, law enforcement agencies detained a group of individuals who kidnapped a local farmer and demanded $70,000 for his release. The group included an active company commander from one of the military units and a former serviceman. This was reported by
"Hlavkom"citing the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the investigation, in July 2025, the criminals unlawfully deprived the farmer of his freedom in the town of Hubynykha. They used physical violence against him, handcuffed him, and transported him in his own car to a neighboring region. There, they demanded and received money for his release.
A joint operation was conducted by prosecutors of the Dnipro Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the defense sector of Eastern Region together with investigators from the Samarsky district police department. During the searches, mobile phones, clothing, part of the money, and a car obtained from the victim were seized from the detainees.
Both suspects have been charged with unlawful deprivation of liberty, illegal possession of a vehicle, and extortion. They are currently detained, and law enforcement has already approached the court with a petition for preventive measures in the form of detention. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

For a monetary reward, the suspects made unauthorized changes to electronic registers, utilizing access to automated systems of government agencies, and processed fictitious documents regarding the adoption of minor children. This, it is emphasized, allowed them to obtain the status of a large family and, respectively, legal grounds for crossing the border under martial law conditions.
