Roof Collapse at the Ural College of Technology and Entrepreneurship

A section of the roof gave way at the Ural College of Technology and Entrepreneurship in Yekaterinburg, specifically over the school's gymnasium. The collapse covered an area of 400 square meters. In response, 97 individuals on the premises were evacuated before rescue crews arrived. Emergency services deployed 15 personnel from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and 5 units of equipment to the scene. According to the prosecutor's office, the collapse was triggered by a crack in the roofing material. Notably, the gymnasium was empty at the time of the incident.

Nationwide Housing Relocation Program Halted

Separately, Russian State Duma Deputy Andrei Gurulyov announced the suspension of the federal program for relocating residents from dilapidated housing. The deputy stated the program has effectively stalled due to a lack of budget funds, attributing the shortfall to the war against Ukraine:

“There is no money because of the war against Ukraine” - Andrei Gurulyov

In connection with this, Gurulyov also released a list of cities included in a family mortgage program, which includes:

  • Kramatorsk
  • Sloviansk
  • Dobropillia
  • Druzhkivka
  • Kherson

These developments occur amid a worsening socio-economic situation in Russia, driven by factors including military operations and economic sanctions. The roof collapse at an educational institution raises further concerns about the state of regional infrastructure, while the suspension of the housing relocation program casts doubt on housing security for those in need. Such issues could have serious implications for public welfare, especially during a period of ongoing conflict and economic instability.
