French Court Convicts Two Ukrainian Women for Unlicensed Cosmetic Injections

Французький суд засудив двох українок за незаконне проведення косметичних процедур.

French Court Convicts Ukrainian Nationals

A criminal court in Grasse, France, has sentenced two Ukrainian citizens for practicing medicine illegally at a beauty salon. The case, which stemmed from events in the summer of 2023, involved a doctor administering injections without a French medical license and a manager who handled client recruitment, logistics, and organizational matters. The French healthcare system strictly regulates such cosmetic procedures to ensure patient safety.

The investigation began following a police inspection at a salon in Villeneuve-Loubet, where authorities seized a large quantity of syringes. The doctor, who arrived in France from Ukraine in 2023, holds a diploma in cosmetic surgery. It is estimated that approximately 900 clients received treatments, none of which were officially documented.

Charges and Court Ruling

Prosecutors had sought an 18-month suspended sentence and a €40,000 fine for the doctor, and an 8-month suspended sentence with a €20,000 fine for the manager. However, the court handed down an identical sentence to both defendants: an 8-month suspended prison term and a €20,000 fine each.

The presiding judge remarked: 'In this salon, they were doing hairstyles and Botox injections.'

Prosecutor Paul-Marie Ferry added: 'When I see that there are no victims at this hearing, the defendant can consider herself fortunate that everything went well.'

This case underscores the critical importance of adhering to medical standards and licensing within the cosmetic services industry, especially given the rising global demand for non-invasive procedures. The absence of official records and proper credentials can pose significant health risks to clients and lead to severe legal repercussions for practitioners. While the court deemed a moderate penalty appropriate due to the lack of formal complaints, the ruling does not diminish the seriousness of the regulatory breaches uncovered during the investigation.

This case highlights the ongoing issues within the medical sector, particularly as similar incidents continue to surface. For instance, a recent arrest in Kyiv involved a doctor who allegedly facilitated fraudulent disability claims for a hefty fee, raising concerns about the integrity of medical practices. Such cases illustrate the critical need for regulatory compliance in healthcare, as violations can have serious consequences for both practitioners and patients.
