Starting from January 2026, updated behavior rules for passengers will come into effect in the public transport of Krakow. The city will officially prohibit loud phone conversations, the use of hands-free mode, and playing music through speakers in buses and trams. Violators may face a fine of 200 zlotys or be asked to leave the transport. This is reported by inPoland.
Prohibition of loud conversations in transport: what changes will occur
The city council of Krakow has approved changes to the passenger and luggage transport rules just before Christmas. From now on, it will be prohibited in public transport:
-
to talk loudly on the phone;
-
to use a loudspeaker or hands-free mode;
-
to listen to music or videos without headphones.
The new rules apply to all types of city transport and aim to reduce noise levels during trips.
New rules for passengers: how compliance will be monitored
As reported by Gazeta Krakowska, the initiative was a response to a request from a city resident who pointed out the outdated wording of previous rules. Previously, the prohibition only applied to radios and did not cover smartphones and portable speakers.
Ticket inspectors will monitor compliance with the new requirements. If a violation is detected, they can impose a fine. Moreover, drivers will have the right to ask a passenger to stop loud use of electronic devices or leave the vehicle in case of refusal.
The city council emphasizes that the goal of the changes is to create a calm and comfortable environment for all passengers and clearly define acceptable norms of behavior in public transport.
As a reminder, Krakow has for the first time overtaken Warsaw in terms of average salary, showing 11,160.39 zlotys in October 2025.
