Kharkiv is updating its urban electric transport fleet with international aid. The city has received a batch of trams and trolleybuses from the Czech Republic, which are currently being prepared for operation on routes.

The update was reported by Mayor Ihor Terekhov on December 17. According to him, the delivery of the equipment was the result of lengthy negotiations, technical inspections, and complex logistics in wartime conditions.

The following have already arrived in Kharkiv:

  • six trams from the city of Brno

  • the first of four multi-section trams from Plzen

  • four large trolleybuses from České Budějovice.

Currently, specialists are working on adapting the vehicles to local conditions and the requirements of Kharkiv's infrastructure.

Trams and Trolleybuses from the Czech Republic for Kharkiv: Opinion of Urbanists

Urbanist and head of the public organization 'Kharkiv for People' Pavlo Kramov believes that the appearance of the three-section tram could mark the beginning of a new stage in the development of tram traffic in the city. He points out that Kharkiv is gradually transitioning from compact transport to more spacious vehicles that better meet passenger flow.

At the same time, the expert notes that the use of long carriages will require modernization of depots and technical sites. Despite the complex logistics and bureaucratic challenges, he calls this step an important standard for the future development of Kharkiv's electric transport.

Let us remind you that free public transport will continue to operate in Kharkiv. The city authorities do not plan to cancel the benefit introduced during the war.
