Mother-in-Law Murder in Kharkiv Region
A man in the Kharkiv region is suspected of murdering his mother-in-law and concealing her body in a shed for nearly a year and a half. The incident occurred in the village of Veleten, Chuhuiv district, in November 2024. According to the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, an argument escalated, during which the man struck the victim several times in the head. He then continued the assault and strangled the woman.
The victim's body was placed in a bag and moved to a shed, where it remained until April 2026. An acquaintance of the victim, who had not seen her for a long time, alerted the police to her disappearance. Upon learning that law enforcement planned to search the property, the suspect panicked. In an attempt to dispose of the evidence, he enlisted a friend who was unaware of the bag's contents. Mistaking this for routine help with household chores, the friend assisted in loading the bag into a minibus.
Case Investigation
Police stopped the minibus for an inspection, during which the corpse was discovered. The 46-year-old suspect has been formally notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (murder). He is currently being held in custody as a preventive measure. The Chuhuiv District Prosecutor's Office of the Kharkiv region is overseeing the procedural aspects of the case.
