The Open Kharkiv app has launched a service for tracking buses, trolleybuses, and trams in real time. It also shows metro and ground transport routes and schedules, but it lacks the familiar countdown to arrival found in EasyWay. The launch of the service was announced by the Digital Transformation Department of the Kharkiv City Council.
Transport in the Open Kharkiv app: what features are available
The new Transport service has become a separate section of the Open Kharkiv city app. With GPS tracking, users can see the current location of municipal buses, trolleybuses, and trams on the map.
After selecting a transport number, the app displays the complete route from the starting to the final stop. It also allows searching by route number and displays schedules for ground public transport.
The service additionally includes the schedule for trains of the Kharkiv metro. Users can add regular routes to their Favorites for quick access without repeated searches.
The map also marks concrete shelter stops. This helps passengers find the nearest safe spot along the route during air alerts.
Drawbacks of Open Kharkiv: how the service differs from EasyWay
In terms of key features, the new section resembles the EasyWay service, which Kharkiv residents have been using for many years. Both solutions allow users to track transport on the map and view routes.
However, Open Kharkiv does not have a countdown in minutes and seconds to the arrival of transport at a specific stop. Instead, the app shows the estimated time of arrival. This is less clear for a passenger who wants to quickly understand how much time they have left to wait.
The city department does not consider this a limitation and does not indicate whether such a feature will appear in future updates. Thus, the accuracy of the arrival forecast will depend on practical use of the service.
To take advantage of the new section, you need to download Open Kharkiv or update the app to the latest version.
