From July 20, fares for public transport in Khmelnytskyi will change. The trip cost in buses and minivans will rise to 20 UAH, while in trolleybuses it will be 14 UAH. The city authorities explain the decision by the increase in fuel prices, electricity, and service costs for transport. This is reported by Delo.ua.
Transport in Khmelnytskyi from July 20: what rates will come into effect
The relevant decision was made by the Khmelnytskyi City Council after reviewing the carriers' expenses. From now on, a trip in buses and minivans will cost 20 UAH, while in trolleybuses it will be 14 UAH.
The need to increase fares was announced by Deputy Mayor Mykola Vavryshchuk. According to him, carriers have faced significant rises in fuel, electricity, spare parts, and other operational costs.
«This is a forced decision. We hoped that fuel prices would decrease, but this did not happen. Most Ukrainian cities revised fares in the spring, in April-May,» the official noted.
New fares in Khmelnytskyi: why public transport has become more expensive
The city council emphasizes that even after the increase, Khmelnytskyi will remain among the regional centers with relatively low transport costs.
According to Mykola Vavryshchuk, in many cities of Ukraine, the cost of a bus ride is already between 22 and 25 UAH, and the tariff for trolleybuses often exceeds 15 UAH. In addition, several communities are also preparing for another review of fare costs.
The previous fare increase in Khmelnytskyi occurred in July 2025. Until July 20, 2026, passengers will pay 15 UAH for a trip in buses and minivans and 9 UAH in trolleybuses.
It should be noted that a collision between a train and a passenger car occurred at a regulated railway crossing on Ivan Franko Street in Khmelnytskyi. The incident happened on June 29 at about 02:21 AM.
