Kyiv Braces for a Sharp Temperature Drop Starting February 16

Київ готується до різкого зниження температури, яке розпочнеться 16 лютого.

Weather Forecast for Kyiv and the Surrounding Region

Residents of Kyiv and the Kyiv region should prepare for a significant cold snap beginning on February 16. According to the weather forecast for the period of February 12–19, the capital will experience fluctuating temperatures and possible precipitation. Today, February 12, the nighttime air temperature in Kyiv will be around 0°C, with daytime highs expected to reach 1–3°C. In the wider region, temperatures may warm to 0–5°C. A southern wind will blow at speeds of 7–12 m/s.

Anticipated Cold Spell

A substantial drop in air temperature is expected during the week, particularly on February 16. Nighttime lows will plunge to -8...-10°C, with daytime highs only reaching -6...-8°C. Moderate snowfall is forecast for the night, with light snow possible during the day. The wind direction will shift, becoming northerly at night and northwesterly during the day.

This forecast follows an incident on February 5 at 21 Velyka Zhytomyrska Street, where patrol officers were inspecting the road network in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Such events highlight the need for vigilant monitoring of road conditions, as winter weather and precipitation often lead to dangerous icy patches on slippery roads.

Forecasts indicate a warming trend is expected by February 19. However, until then, capital residents should prepare for cold and inclement conditions.

The anticipated cold spell in Kyiv and the region may create additional challenges for drivers and pedestrians, especially with potential precipitation and ice. Monitoring road conditions during winter is crucial, making it important to heed advice from local authorities. The weather is predicted to improve after February 19, which should positively impact transport and daily life in the region.
