Khreshchatyk Street in Kyiv to Face Partial Closure for Road Repairs

Часткове закриття вулиці Хрещатик у Києві через ремонтні роботи на дорозі.

Traffic Restrictions in Kyiv

A partial traffic halt is scheduled for Khreshchatyk Street in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi District on May 7, 2026. The disruption stems from asphalt concrete resurfacing work on the stretch between European Square and Taras Shevchenko Boulevard. These restrictions will be in effect daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM through May 9.

Additionally, the Pecherskyi District will see partial traffic limitations on Naberezhne Highway. Repairs there will cover both directions from the Metro Bridge to the Paton Bridge interchange. Across Ukraine, 203 road crews—totaling roughly 2,000 workers—are deployed daily to maintain and improve roadways.

Advice for Drivers

The schedule may shift if weather conditions worsen, according to authorities. The municipal corporation Kyivavtodor has issued an advance warning about potential temporary inconveniences for motorists. Work is now focusing on national highways and sections requiring comprehensive restoration.

These repairs are part of a broader initiative to upgrade Kyiv's road infrastructure, aiming to create safer conditions for both drivers and pedestrians. While the temporary traffic restrictions may pose challenges for residents and visitors to the capital, their purpose is to enhance road surface quality and reduce the risk of accidents. Drivers are advised to factor this information into their travel plans when navigating these parts of the city.

As the city undertakes important road repairs, it's essential for drivers to stay informed about ongoing traffic changes. For instance, the planned closure of the Southern Bridge and nearby overpass will also impact traffic flow, highlighting the need for careful navigation in Kyiv during this period. Staying updated on these developments can help avoid delays and ensure smoother travel.
