In Kyiv, the transportation collapse has continued for the second day in a row after the snowfall in the city. Due to icy conditions and overloaded traffic, movement in the city is effectively paralyzed, and public transport is operating with significant disruptions. This is reported by TSN.
On the main highways, vehicles move at pedestrian speed. Bus and minibus schedules have been disrupted, and people are waiting for hours at stops. When transport does arrive, the cabins are overcrowded, and some passengers simply cannot get inside.
The situation is aggravated by a sharp increase in taxi prices. Due to demand and adverse weather conditions, fares have risen several times, which has come as an unpleasant surprise for many Kyiv residents.
Transportation collapse in Kyiv: what the authorities are doing
The Kyiv City State Administration reported that overnight, road services cleared the main roads, overpasses, descents, and climbs. Special attention was paid to the approaches to public transport stops.
According to the city authorities:
-
256 units of equipment worked on the roads;
-
anti-icing materials were applied to the surface;
-
snow removal from the streets is ongoing.
Despite this, it has not yet been possible to fully normalize traffic.
Icy conditions in the capital: «yellow» level of danger
Forecasters predict frosty weather in Kyiv with no significant precipitation. At the same time, the main threat remains ice, which has led to the declaration of a «yellow» level of danger.
The city administration urges:
-
drivers — to refrain from traveling in their own cars unless absolutely necessary;
-
pedestrians — to be careful on sidewalks and when crossing roads, as the braking distance of vehicles on ice is significantly longer.
It is worth noting that a heavy snowfall covered the capital on Sunday, after which the situation on the roads sharply worsened.
Recall that restrictions on the entry of trucks were introduced in Kyiv due to the snowfall.
