In Kyiv, the police reported suspicion against two men for engaging in the illegal sale of drugs known as kratom. This substance is often consumed like regular tea.
Kratom, scientifically known as Mitragyna speciosa, is a plant native to Southeast Asia. It contains substances that can lead to dependency similar to opioid drugs. Therefore, it is classified as a narcotic substance in Ukraine.
The actions of the suspects are classified as a crime under Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, the suspects have been chosen a preventive measure of detention. They face imprisonment for a term of 9 to 12 years and confiscation of property.
It is better to prevent such situations and timely inform law enforcement about potential criminals to avoid the sale and distribution of dangerous substances in our city.
