Emergency Repairs Underway in Kyiv After Water Main and Sewer Breaks

Надзвичайні роботи з відновлення тривають у Києві через аварії водопроводу та каналізації.

Water Supply and Sewer Network Failures in Kyiv

Kyiv’s utility crews are currently responding to two separate infrastructure failures affecting the city’s water and sewer systems. One incident occurred at 1 Ivana Mazepy Street, where a section of the roadway collapsed. Specialists from Kyivvodokanal have repaired damage inside a water well at a flange coupling. The cavity has been filled with sand and gravel, but the site at 1 Ivana Mazepy Street still requires asphalt resurfacing. Traffic heading toward Slavy Square is partially restricted.

Meanwhile, an emergency situation has developed at the sewer collector on 2 Tarasa Shevchenka Boulevard. On June 9, a collapse occurred in a 400 mm diameter street sewer line on this boulevard. A contracted organization is currently cleaning the sewer network by flushing. Due to these operations, traffic is partially limited in the direction of Yevhena Chykalenka Street.

At the Mazepy Street location near the Arsenalna metro station, damage was found in a 200 mm diameter water supply line. However, the affected section has been shut off, and all customers remain connected to water service. Utility teams continue working to fully resolve the aftermath of these breakdowns.

Impact on Traffic Conditions

The failures in the water and sewer networks are expected to significantly affect traffic throughout the capital. Partial lane closures in the affected areas could lead to congestion and delays for drivers. While municipal services are responding promptly, restoring normal traffic flow may take time, depending on the scope of the repair work required.

Residents are advised to stay informed about potential traffic disruptions and to plan their routes accordingly in light of the changing road conditions.

As the city grapples with these significant infrastructure issues, similar traffic disruptions are also occurring on Hrushevskoho Street due to damaged utility networks.
