In Kyiv, there are plans to significantly increase the fare for public transport. A single trip may cost 30 hryvnias, but a discount system, season tickets, and transfer tickets are promised for passengers. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.

In Kyiv, they want to set a fare of 30 UAH for one trip

The Department of Economics and Investments of the Kyiv City State Administration stated that the last fare review in the capital occurred in 2018.

The new increase is explained by:

  • the increase in electricity prices;

  • the rise in fuel prices;

  • an increase in salary expenses;

  • maintaining transport infrastructure;

  • a decrease in passenger flow.

According to the calculations of transport enterprises, the economically justified fare in 2026 should be:

  • 64.60 UAH in the metro;

  • 44.14 UAH in surface transport.

However, the Kyiv City State Administration proposes to set the base price at 30 hryvnias.

A discount system for travel will be implemented in Kyiv

For passengers with a transport card, reduced fares will be applied based on the number of trips purchased.

The fare will be:

  1. 1–9 trips — 30 UAH;

  2. 10–19 — 28.90 UAH;

  3. 20–29 — 27.80 UAH;

  4. 30–39 — 26.60 UAH;

  5. 40–49 — 25.50 UAH;

  6. 50 trips — 25 UAH.

The capital is also planning to keep monthly passes.

The price of a single trip within the pass will be approximately 23.3–23.6 UAH.

What will the passes cost in Kyiv

The Kyiv City State Administration has announced new prices for monthly passes:

  • 46 trips — 1088 UAH;

  • 62 trips — 1463 UAH;

  • 92 trips — 2156 UAH;

  • 124 trips — 2888 UAH.

An unlimited pass for the metro, bus, tram, trolleybus, and funicular will cost 4875 UAH per month.

Separately, a transfer ticket for 60 UAH will be introduced, allowing unlimited transfers between the metro and surface transport for 90 minutes.

Students and schoolchildren in Kyiv will still have benefits

The Kyiv City State Administration announced that the preferential conditions for students and pupils will remain.

Students will pay 50% of the cost of a monthly pass.

Schoolchildren will continue to use the transport for free during the school year, and in summer will pay only 25% of the cost of the pass.

Additionally, short-term unlimited passes will be introduced for tourists and city guests:

  • for 24 hours — 375 UAH;

  • for 48 hours — 563 UAH;

  • for 72 hours — 750 UAH.

The new tariffs are planned to be implemented starting from July 15, 2026, after the completion of public consultations and regulatory policy procedures.

For Kyiv residents, this means the largest fare increase in recent years, however, the authorities are trying to encourage the use of transport cards and passes through the discount system.

It should be noted that the increase in fare for suburban routes in the Kyiv region has become a pressing issue for local residents. From now on, the cost of traveling between Irpin and Kyiv will be 80 UAH.
