Drone Strikes Prompt Kyiv to Halt Metro and Electric Transport Amid Yellow Alert

Київ призупинив роботу метро та електричного транспорту через загрозу атак дронів.

Events in Kyiv on October 10

On October 10, Kyiv experienced a temporary suspension of metro train operations and escalator services due to a power outage originating from external supply centers. This disruption occurred as the city was placed under a yellow alert following drone attacks. Fragments of unmanned aerial vehicles struck a 25-story residential building and an eight-story office complex in the Solomianskyi district.

The damage to an energy facility in Kyiv region further strained the capital's power supply, resulting in interruptions to water service. Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, commented:

'Damage to an energy facility in Kyiv region has worsened the capital’s power situation. The city is also facing water supply interruptions. Specialists are working to restore water delivery.' Vitali Klitschko

Additionally, a Russian shelling caused an emergency power outage in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Electric public transport was temporarily halted across Holosiivskyi, parts of Solomianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Pecherskyi districts. Metro services resumed at 13:54 on October 10.

Current Energy Challenges in Kyiv

It’s important to recall that on October 8, the National Energy Company 'Ukrenergo' ordered emergency power shutdowns in Kyiv and surrounding areas. That same day, Russian forces targeted a critical energy facility serving the city. Ground public transportation routes may be adjusted temporarily depending on the broader energy system’s status.

This incident highlights the fragile state of Kyiv’s energy infrastructure amid ongoing conflict, emphasizing the need for vigilant security measures. Interruptions to electricity and water supply have serious impacts on daily life in the capital, especially under heightened security threats. Authorities continue to take active steps to restore energy services and maintain urban stability.
