Parents Fined After Minors Set Fire to Dry Grass Near Kyiv Lake

Батьки отримали штраф за те, що їхні діти підпалили траву біля озера в Київській області.

Incident in Dnipro District

Two schoolboys ignited dry grass near Lake Rayduzhne in Kyiv's Dnipro District, prompting an emergency response. The fire was reported to the Dnipro Police Department, and State Emergency Service crews quickly extinguished the flames. Investigators determined that the children, ages 9 and 11, deliberately set the dry vegetation alight after finding matches during a walk. No injuries were reported.

Police Action and Consequences

Juvenile crime prevention officers identified the perpetrators and provided educational guidance to the minors. Their parents received administrative citations under Article 184 of Ukraine's Code on Administrative Offenses for failing to properly fulfill their child-rearing responsibilities. Kyiv police are urging parents to closely monitor their children's activities to prevent similar incidents.

This case comes amid a broader pattern of dry grass fires across Ukraine. In the Zakarpattia region, a 75-year-old man lost his summer house near Chop due to burning dry vegetation. Meanwhile, in the village of Dunkovitsa, a 65-year-old woman from Mukachevo died after a grass fire spread while she and her husband were tidying a land plot. These tragedies highlight the critical need for fire safety awareness during spring vegetation burning, as such incidents can cause serious harm, injuries, and property damage. Parents and educators must teach children accountability for their actions in natural environments.

The recent incident near Lake Rayduzhne is not an isolated case, as uncontrolled grass fires continue to pose significant risks across Ukraine. In a tragic event in the Zakarpattia region, a similar fire led to the destruction of a summer house and even claimed a life. These occurrences underscore the urgent need for fire safety education and awareness.
