5th International Forum of the Crimea Platform Expert Network
The 5th International Forum of the Crimea Platform Expert Network has officially launched in Kyiv. This event is part of the broader International Crimea Platform initiative and brings together government officials, diplomats, members of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, as well as Ukrainian and international think tanks and human rights organizations. The forum serves as a key venue for coordinating non-governmental efforts to address the ongoing occupation of Crimea.
Opening Remarks and Core Messages
Opening speeches were delivered by Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevhen Perebyinis, Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Olha Kuryshko, and British Chargé d'Affaires to Ukraine Charlotte Suren. Perebyinis stated that the de-occupation of the Crimean Peninsula remains a top priority in Ukraine's foreign policy agenda.
He also highlighted the critical role of the Expert Network as the non-governmental pillar of the Crimea Platform, providing essential information, analytical support, and communication outreach.
“Through this collaboration, prominent international figures, parliamentarians, human rights defenders, and civic leaders join campaigns in support of unlawfully detained Ukrainian citizens, drawing attention to individual human stories.” - Yevhen Perebyinis
Furthermore, he emphasized that despite Russia's persistent attempts to convince the world that the Crimea issue is settled, the international community continues to firmly uphold its stance of non-recognition regarding the peninsula's occupation.
This forum underscores the importance of international backing for Ukraine on the Crimea issue, as well as the active role of civil society in shaping global policy on this matter. Cooperation between state institutions and non-governmental organizations can significantly strengthen Ukraine's position on the world stage and draw attention to human rights abuses in Crimea.
With the occupation ongoing, it is crucial that the global community continues to support Ukraine in its efforts to reclaim the peninsula.
As the forum in Kyiv progresses, it is crucial to recognize the ongoing efforts to address Crimea's situation. The upcoming forum dedicated to Crimea’s deoccupation will further explore strategies and solutions, highlighting the collaborative approach necessary to tackle the challenges posed by the occupation.
