New Addition to the 'Search!' Miniature Sculpture Series

On September 30, 2026, Kyiv celebrated the installation of the 54th miniature sculpture from the 'Search!' project, dedicated to the renowned dancer and choreographer Bronislava Nijinska. Recognized as a key figure in 20th-century Ukrainian dance, Nijinska founded the 'School of Movement' in Kyiv in 1919, where she pioneered avant-garde choreography and mentored influential artists such as Serge Lifar. This sculpture is prominently placed on the facade of the National Opera of Ukraine at 5 Lysenko Street, just beneath the rehearsal hall windows.

The Story Behind the 'Search!' Project

Established in 2018 by Yulia Bevzenko, the 'Search!' initiative aims to honor notable personalities through small-scale public sculptures. The project’s first sculpture, unveiled on January 29, 2018, appeared on a restaurant facade along Andriyivskyy Descent and was named 'Chicken Kyiv.' These miniature monuments celebrate distinguished figures like Nijinska, who exemplify Ukrainian artists with global influence.

Yulia Bevzenko commented, "Ukraine needs heroines like Nijinska. She represents a world-class Ukrainian artist who refused to fit into predefined molds. I admire her uncompromising authenticity and courage to create her own ballet, pursuing her passion even when it meant challenging established norms. She carved out a space for herself in a profession that offered little room for women."

Amid the full-scale war, Kyiv has also begun installing sculptures commemorating Ukraine’s defenders. Recently, the 52nd piece was unveiled, honoring jeweler Iosif Marshak on the facade of the UNIAN editorial office. The 'Search!' project continues to engage both locals and visitors, highlighting Ukraine’s rich cultural heritage and the remarkable individuals who have shaped its artistic legacy.

The dedication of a miniature sculpture to Bronislava Nijinska marks a significant moment in preserving Ukrainian cultural memory, especially during challenging times. By spotlighting influential contributors to the arts and culture, the 'Search!' project fosters national identity and ensures that the legacies of gifted creators remain alive on the world stage, an effort crucial to Ukraine’s resilience today.
