Art Installation Unveiled in Kyiv
On February 4, 2026, a new art installation was inaugurated near the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People in Kyiv. The work, which features an anti-drone net with a cardiogram pattern and a commemorative plaque, honors the State Special Transport Service (DSSST) of the Ministry of Defense. The unveiling coincided with DSSST Day, serving as a tribute to the service's critical role in safeguarding Ukraine's security throughout the full-scale invasion.
Symbolism of the Artwork
Located on the Defenders' Alley, the installation's memorial plaque depicts three rays and a symbol of fortifications. It represents the efforts of DSSST personnel who, as stated by First Deputy Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk, are "turning the land into a fortress" by protecting supply routes from aerial attacks. This memorial stands as a symbol of the unbreakable will and spirit of those who risk their lives for the safety of others. The DSSST is a specialized military unit responsible for the security and operation of critical transport infrastructure.
During the years of full-scale war, the DSSST has achieved significant milestones in logistics and fortification:
- Established nearly 30,000 kilometers of non-explosive barriers;
- Constructed up to 3,000 strongpoints;
- Protected over 300 sites of national importance;
- Restored more than 502.5 kilometers of damaged railway tracks;
- Covered 582 kilometers of protective routes, with another 101.5 kilometers currently under construction;
- Plans to cover an additional 94 kilometers in the near future.
DSSST specialists are also actively engaged in demining, having surveyed 224,537 hectares and neutralized 261,013 explosive ordnance items. The head of the DSSST Administration, Major General Oleksandr Yakovets, emphasized that the service suffers significant losses in the line of duty, but its goal remains unchanged: to do everything possible to prevent the aggressor from seizing a single centimeter of Ukrainian land.
This art installation serves not only to honor the DSSST's work but also as a reminder of the heroism of those who risk their lives daily while carrying out combat missions under extremely difficult conditions.
The unveiling underscores the vital role of the State Special Transport Service in addressing Ukraine's contemporary security challenges. The DSSST continues to execute key tasks related to protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring logistics under wartime conditions. This initiative also demonstrates public support and recognition for the bravery of Ukrainian service members engaged in the nation's defense every day.
