Heating Restoration Progress in Kyiv

Repair crews are working to restore heating to 143 buildings in Kyiv, a list that includes over 100 multi-story apartment blocks. As of today, 30 buildings have been without heat since the Russian attack on January 9. The situation is improving, however, as 16 high-rises were reconnected over the last 24 hours, reducing the total from 46 buildings reported yesterday.

Coordinated Repair Efforts

A significant mobilization of personnel is underway to address the crisis. Currently, 18 additional repair teams are on the ground, including 10 crews provided by Ukrzaliznytsia, the national railway. A further four teams each have been deployed from the Kyiv region and the cities of Fastiv and Obukhiv. The city plans to deploy an additional 20 teams starting tomorrow, significantly boosting repair capacity. Kyiv's municipal authorities continue to prioritize restoring essential services to the affected districts.

Restoring central heating is a critical task during the Ukrainian winter, when sub-zero temperatures pose a direct threat to residents. The coordinated response, drawing on both local and regional resources, highlights the ongoing effort to mitigate the impact of the war on civilian infrastructure.

The deployment of these extra teams is crucial for accelerating repairs and ensuring livable conditions for the capital's residents during the cold season.
