Over 43,000 Square Meters of Roads Repaired in Kyiv

В Києві відремонтовано більше 43 тисяч квадратних метрів дорожнього покриття.

Preventive Maintenance of Kyiv’s Street and Road Network

Kyivavtodor, the municipal road corporation, is carrying out preventive maintenance across the city’s road network. The key objective is to stop asphalt from deteriorating prematurely and to extend the pavement’s lifespan after winter. Since the start of the spring-summer season, crews have sealed over 124 kilometers of cracks and repaired 43,000 square meters of road surface.

Workers are fixing minor pavement damage using specialized techniques that avoid heavy machinery and lengthy street closures. Here is how the asphalt repair process works:

  • Cracks in the asphalt are first cleaned.
  • They are thoroughly dried with a powerful stream of hot air.
  • A special material is applied to block moisture from seeping in.
  • For small potholes, the damaged area is blasted with air.
  • It is treated with bitumen emulsion and filled with a mix of crushed stone and emulsion.
  • Dry crushed stone is spread on top.

These localized repairs take just a few minutes, and traffic is allowed to resume immediately after work finishes.

Major Overhaul of Mіska Street

A major renovation of Mіska Street, which began in March, is currently underway. As part of this project, over 600 meters of new, larger-diameter storm drainage pipes have been installed, and work is ongoing to prepare the road base for future asphalt paving.

Due to air temperatures exceeding +28°C, temporary restrictions on heavy truck traffic are in effect across the capital. The ban applies to vehicles with an actual weight over 24 tons or an axle load exceeding 7 tons. Kyivavtodor made the decision to impose these limits, and relevant road signs and information boards have been placed on city roads.

Preventive maintenance of Kyiv’s road network is a vital step for preserving the city’s infrastructure, especially after winter when roads endure heavy strain.

The restrictions on heavy truck movement during high temperatures are another measure aimed at protecting the pavement. This decision helps prevent additional infrastructure problems in summer, when asphalt is more vulnerable to stress from heat.

As road repairs progress in Kyiv, traffic restrictions are set to impact several streets starting this June. These measures are essential to facilitate ongoing maintenance and ensure the safety of both workers and drivers. With the city's infrastructure undergoing significant improvements, staying informed about road conditions will help residents navigate the changes more effectively.
