Corruption Network for Illegal Border Crossings Uncovered in Kyiv
Law enforcement in Kyiv has dismantled another corruption ring involved in illegally moving men across the state border. Detectives from the Dnipro Police Department, working alongside operatives from the Main Department for Strategic Investigations in Kyiv and under the procedural guidance of the Dnipro District Prosecutor’s Office, detained a 38-year-old local resident. He was offering to forge medical documents for $25,000. The suspect had identified a 30-year-old man subject to military service, promising to provide paperwork certifying a second-degree disability.
The arrest occurred immediately after the suspect received the payment, made possible through targeted police operations. His actions have been classified under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which carries a penalty of up to nine years in prison along with asset confiscation.
Kyiv police reported that for this sum, the criminal undertook to supply counterfeit documents confirming a second disability group, as well as guidance on how to successfully cross the border. He assured the client that following his instructions would guarantee the scheme’s success.
Similar Schemes Uncovered in Other Regions
It is worth noting that comparable illegal trafficking operations have also been detected in the Khmelnytskyi region, where the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police blocked a channel smuggling men into Moldova while bypassing official checkpoints. Organizers there charged over $10,000 per client. In Volyn, border guards exposed a businessman who, for $15,000, fraudulently employed men at a transport company to facilitate their departure abroad. The 40-year-old entrepreneur, a resident of the Kovel district, serves as the director of an international freight forwarding firm.
The issue of illegally moving men across the border remains acute, and authorities continue to intensify efforts against such schemes.
The arrests and exposure of these corruption networks highlight a stepped-up response by law enforcement to combat illegal border crossings, especially as the country grapples with an ongoing military conflict.
