Kyiv Imposes Restrictions on Heavy Goods Vehicles
In response to heavy snowfall, Kyiv authorities have banned heavy and oversized vehicles from entering the city starting at 10:00 PM on February 15. This measure is intended to improve road safety and facilitate the work of municipal snow-clearing crews.
The city's road maintenance company, Kyivavtodor, has deployed 216 pieces of specialized equipment to clear the capital's highways. However, the efforts are being hampered as trucks are getting stuck in the snow, worsening traffic conditions. Consequently, the Kyiv City State Administration is urging residents to use public transportation instead of private cars. This is expected to help reduce traffic jams and allow snowplows to work more efficiently. Such winter storms are not uncommon in the region, but they can severely disrupt urban infrastructure.
Guidance for Drivers and Pedestrians
Authorities are also reminding drivers to adhere to parking regulations. Illegally parked cars can obstruct snow-clearing machinery, and such vehicles will be towed if necessary. Additionally, the Kyiv Patrol Police are advising pedestrians to:
- cross streets only at designated crossings and when traffic signals permit;
- wear reflective elements to increase visibility in the challenging weather conditions.
The situation in Kyiv underscores the need for swift government action in response to adverse weather that threatens road safety.
