Man Detained in Kyiv for Rape of Woman in Pryvokzalny Park; Now Held in Custody

Assault on Woman in Pryvokzalny Park, Kyiv

A disturbing attack took place in Kyiv's Pryvokzalny Park, where a man sexually assaulted a woman as she was walking home one evening. The perpetrator grabbed her by the neck, strangled her, dragged her into the bushes, and struck her head several times. Under threat of further violence, he then raped the victim.

Thanks to swift police intervention, the suspect was apprehended. Authorities identified him as a 22-year-old man originally from Zhytomyr region, who had a prior criminal record for theft. At the time of the crime, he was on probation and had been living near the train station close to the scene for several days.

The Darnytskyi District Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv has formally charged the man under Part 1 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He remains in custody without the option of bail.
