Man Arrested in Kyiv for Firing Rubber Bullets at Night in Residential Courtyard

Чоловіка затримали в Києві за обстріл гумовими кулями у дворовій території вночі.

Arrest in Kyiv's Dnipro District

A 39-year-old man was taken into custody in the Dnipro district of Kyiv after firing two shots from a rubber-bullet launcher in the courtyard of an apartment building during the night. He has been formally charged under Part 1 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which addresses hooliganism. Law enforcement officers confiscated the device used to fire the rubber projectiles during the arrest.

The incident occurred late at night on Hnata Khotkevycha Street. The suspect fired two rounds into the air, alarming local residents. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of up to five years of restricted freedom.

Suspect's Criminal History

This is not the first time the individual has been in trouble with the law. He was previously detained for a similar shooting in Kyiv's Desnianskyi district, where he also discharged two shots. Additionally, the suspect is a serviceman who went AWOL from his unit, and he had earlier been arrested in the Shevchenkivskyi district for threatening to blow up a building.

This case highlights ongoing issues with hooliganism-related offenses and the dangers posed by soldiers who abandon their posts. Given the suspect's prior record, public safety concerns are heightened. Continued monitoring by law enforcement is essential to prevent potentially hazardous situations in the future.

This recent incident in Kyiv's Dnipro district is not an isolated case. Just prior, a suspect was apprehended for similar reckless behavior in the Desnyanskyi district, raising significant concerns about public safety and the prevalence of such hooliganism-related offenses. As authorities continue to address these issues, the community remains vigilant against potential threats.
