Legislative Changes and Contact Information
It is estimated that approximately 1.3 million firearms are in civilian hands across Ukraine. A significant new law, 'On Ensuring the Participation of Civilians in the Defense of Ukraine', is scheduled to take effect on November 25, 2024. This legalization effort is part of a broader strategy to increase oversight and public safety. For those wishing to declare weapons, the Brovary district police can be contacted at 4 Serhii Kaminskyi Street, Brovary; the weapons circulation control sector can be reached at 068-924-76-70 or 093-792-70-00.
'Voluntarily surrendered without declaration: one assault rifle, two rifles, four shotguns, one pistol, and 266 rounds of ammunition,' noted the Kyiv region police.
The voluntary declaration process is a key initiative aimed at reducing the illegal circulation of weapons and enhancing public security in Ukraine. The launch of the Unified Register facilitates the legalization of civilian-held firearms and allows law enforcement to exercise more effective control. With the new law set to be enacted soon, these measures are poised to significantly reshape firearms regulation in the country.
