Residents of Kyiv are demanding access to toilets in the metro from the local authorities. A petition that has gathered enough votes for consideration sparked active discussions among passengers. Daria Yakushko explained that the subway has become not only a key mode of transportation for many but also a place where basic everyday needs must be addressed.
Currently, metro passengers cannot use toilets that are designated only for employees. The only exception is during prolonged air raid alerts.
This is becoming a problem for many, as the unavailability of restrooms leads to significant inconveniences. Daria Yakushko calls for making toilets at metro stations accessible to the public and proposed introducing a small fee for using this service. This practice has long been standard in most European cities, and Yakushko hopes that the local authorities will support the idea of improving conditions for passengers of the Kyiv metro.
The petition reminds the authorities of the importance of ensuring dignified conditions for public transport users and addressing problems that are relevant to many residents of the capital.
