Former Chinese Minister of Agriculture Sentenced to Death for Corruption

The former Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Tang Zhengjian, has been sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for corruption. This was reported by Glavcom citing Reuters.

According to the state news agency Xinhua, between 2007 and 2024, while holding various positions, the official received bribes in cash and property. The total amount of illegal gains exceeded 268 million yuan (approximately $37.6 million).

Former Head of Bank of China Sentenced

A court in China's Shandong province has sentenced the former head of the Bank of China, one of China's largest banks, to death for corruption and illegal lending. Liu Liange led the bank in 2019 and was dismissed in 2021 amid allegations of illegal activities and receiving bribes.

“The indictment states that Liu Liange used his position to promote many people, and that the amount of bribes received was particularly enormous, exceeding 121 million yuan ($17 million). It was also revealed that the man violated laws by approving loans totaling more than 3.32 billion yuan, leading to losses of over 190 million yuan.”

Interestingly, in Saudi Arabia, over the course of the incomplete year 2024, a record number of foreigners were executed – just over 100.

The regime of North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un has expanded the list of crimes punishable by death from 11 to 16 through revisions of criminal legislation.

Summary:
In China, a former Minister of Agriculture and the head of one of the largest banks in the country have been sentenced to death for corruption and other crimes. They abused their positions and moved large sums of money, which resulted in serious consequences. Such cases illustrate the restraint of Chinese legislators and the desire to fight corruption in all areas of power.
