Fatal Ammunition Explosion in Kobleve
Ukraine's Black Sea coast remains under a serious mine threat, and this incident shows what is at stake. An ammunition detonation in the sea near Kobleve killed a 45-year-old man who was in the water and injured two women, aged 47 and 63, who were on the shore. The 63-year-old woman was hospitalized in moderate condition, according to Heorhiy Reshetilov, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.
Swimming Ban Reaffirmed
The Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reiterated that swimming in the sea within the region is prohibited because of the mine danger. The area where the blast occurred had been fenced off and marked with warnings about mine hazards.
"The most frightening thing is that this tragedy could have been avoided. The site was fenced and carried mine-danger signs," Reshetilov said.
The administration also called on residents and visitors to respect all established restrictions and warnings, stay out of the water, and avoid dangerous parts of the coastline.
