Ukraine's Passenger Car Market Sees Growth

In April 2026, Ukraine registered over 13,600 gasoline-powered passenger cars—a 15% increase compared to the same month in 2025. Total sales for the first quarter of 2026 reached nearly 65,500 units, marking an 8% rise over the first quarter of the previous year.

The same month also saw 2,400 new cars registered, up 12% year-on-year. The top-selling new models included:

  • Hyundai Tucson (182 units)
  • BMW 3 Series (132 vehicles)
  • Mazda CX-5 (130 units)
  • Skoda Karoq (123 units)
  • Suzuki SX4 (116 cars)

April 2026 also set a record for the used car market, with 19,323 units sold. However, this represented a 9.1% decline compared to April 2025. The most popular pre-owned vehicles were:

  • Volkswagen Tiguan (730 units)
  • Volkswagen Golf (692 cars)
  • Nissan Rogue (612 units)
  • Audi Q5 (605 cars)
  • Audi A4 (352 vehicles)

Outlook for the Auto Market

April 2026 proved to be a pivotal month for Ukraine's automotive sector, with growth in new car sales and a record-breaking performance in the used car segment.

The rise in new car purchases points to a recovery in consumer demand, likely fueled by economic stabilization and improved household finances. Yet, the drop in used car sales suggests underlying challenges in that segment, warranting closer investigation. These trends are expected to shape the strategies of dealers and manufacturers in the near future.

As the used car market in Ukraine experiences fluctuations, the recent decline in used car imports linked to the reinstatement of VAT on electric vehicles highlights the complexities facing consumers and dealers alike. This situation invites further examination of the factors influencing both new and pre-owned vehicle sales in the current economic climate.
